My Fav Fruit Smoothie (for healthy hair growth)
I think we naturals can agree on one thing. We all desire to have a healthy, beautiful mane. We try product after product; we switch up our regimens per season; we scour Youtube and Instagram for hours, looking for that ONE protective hairstyle that’s going to create the recipe our hair needs in order to grow grow grow because we know that finding the right formula is crucial! Facts, right?
I am always saying that healthy hair comes from the inside out. No matter what you put on your hair, the more important thing is what you put in your body.
A healthy diet is essential in maintaining healthy hair growth. I, for one, love fruits and veggies. In the same token, I am always super busy. Living a life on-the-go can make it difficult for me to make sure I am eating the right things. One thing I have done, that my hair and skin love btw, has been to incorporate smoothies as a regular part of my day to day diet. They are quick to make, and if you prep, you can freeze your fruits and veggies in advance and just drop everything in your blender before you head out for the day.
Let me just say this; I cannot stand a smoothie with ice in it. Bleh. Adding ice to a smoothie, dilutes the flavor, in the worst possible way. If you are going to use frozen fruit in your smoothie, making sure you have a really good blender that will puree your frozen fruit smoothly, is essential!
My bae purchased me a Ninja blender, because he’s dope, and it’s been love ever since. I’ve used it to make tomato bisque soup, it’s blended fruit for homemade fruit rollups, and I absolutely use it for my smoothies. This thing can turn ice into snow! That’s how powerful its blades are….but we are not using it to blend ice, because ice makes smoothies gross, remember?
So, in my research, I have found a host of fruits that are great for healthy hair. I have taken them and blended several combos of different smoothies. My hair has been smoother and much easier to manage. See my recipe below for a quick and tasty fruit smoothie I made with my Ninja, that your skin and hair will love. It’s loaded with proteins and nutrients that our natural hair can’t live without.
My Favorite Fruit Smoothie, great for healthy hair growth
1 medium Pink Lady apple (apples prevent hair loss because of the soluble fiber, phenolic compounds in the apple skin, antioxidants, and vitamins)
1 ripe banana (bananas are full of potassium, natural oils, carbohydrates and vitamins which help prevent breakage and split ends.)
2 tbsp honey
1/4 cup of pea milk (pea protein adds volume and helps to strengthen hair and add shine.)
3 tbsp steel cut oats (oats are rich in fibre, zinc, iron, omega-6 fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids. these all stimulate hair growth and help to make coils thick and healthy.)
1/2 cup strawberries (full of silica, strawberries help prevent baldness.)
1/2 cup mangoes (mangoes are a great source of vitamin C. this helps to promote healthy collagen production for natural hair.)
1/2 cup dragon fruit (jack fruit is full of omega 6s and omega 3s which are both great for collagen and shine. it also has vitamin B6, antioxidants, and is a vitamin C food which helps to add elasticity to the hair and scalp.)
1/2 cup jack fruit (full of vitamin B6, antioxidants, and vitamin C food, you will see more luster and elasticity by eating more jackfruit.)
(feel free to adjust fruit portions per your preferences. this mis makes enough for two smoothies)
Add each item to your blender (in no particular order) and blend to desired consistency. My Ninja has a Pulse option that helps to blend chunkier fruit.
